A very funny noise....

There was a very funny noise in our kitchen last night... loud, thumpy, erratic, scrambly. Oli said very matter of factly, 'oh, it's the ice maker'.
We don't HAVE an ice maker.
We've lived here for a year and a half.
That made me laugh.

Happy Pups

Back with Momma ready for our journey north!

Nourish

The central face of food at American Flatbread in Burlington.

NOURISH
"I am the third and central face of food. I am the face of nutrition. From my body come the building blocks that give me form and strength.
I am the fuel that warms the heart and the power to run and dance and dream.
I am the purpose of flavor and the why of hunger's pain.
Remember me in the foods you eat.
I love you."

First ride of the year today!

It was EPIC and I felt good!!
My new SURLY long haul trucker preformed... what a treat! I am looking forward to getting in better shape and lots of rides this spring and summer. Hopefully an overnight or two, as well!
I love it here.
Yeehaw.

Risotto, start to finish!

Thank you Dina and Melissa for the amazing cookbook, The Art of Simple Food by Alice Waters of Chez Panisse.
The risotto recipe is SO simple and absolutely amazing! I always do vegetarian (broth) with mushroom and either peas or asparagus. Oli says it's as good as the staple upper east side restaurant where he used to order it regularly! What a compliment (to me, not the unnamed fancy restaurant)!!
I make it about once a month and it makes two HEARTY meals for two. YUM.
Anyway, felt like sharing. Wish you could all be here to actually share it with me...
Someday we'll do that!

Best Friends

This is the longest stretch I have ever had without with my fur babies, or as Mims calls them, 'the piggies'... 2 month, 6 days, and counting....

Here's a better way to think about it - only 24 days to go!

I miss them. (Moo moo doesn't.)

Everything is Waiting for You

Your great mistake is to act the drama
as if you were alone. As if life
were a progressive and cunning crime
with no witness to the tiny hidden
transgressions. To feel abandoned is to deny
the intimacy of your surroundings. Surely,
even you, at times, have felt the grand array;
the swelling presence, and the chorus, crowding
out your solo voice. You must note
the way the soap dish enables you,
or the window latch grants you freedom.
Alertness is the hidden discipline of familiarity.
The stairs are your mentor of things
to come, the doors have always been there
to frighten you and invite you,
and the tiny speaker in the phone
is your dream-ladder to divinity.

Put down the weight of your aloneness and ease into
the conversation. The kettle is singing
even as it pours you a drink, the cooking pots
have left their arrogant aloofness and
seen the good in you at last. All the birds
and creatures of the world are unutterably
themselves. Everything is waiting for you.
