Meat Parade

Oli just told me not to "rain on his meat parade" over my refusal to eat split pea and HAM soup.
That's funny.

'The Row'

Pining for a taste of New York, I have been following fashion week from my laptop... mwaaaa mwaaaaa. To be honest, it's not like I would be in the front row at the tents even if I WAS in New York. Anyway, from this vantage point I am currently adoring and adoring The Row which had an amazingly simple and stylish showing. If I were granted one collection this spring (also not going to happen) it would be the row... Mary-Kate and Ashley, who knew!

Bulldog Love from Melissa

My fabulous friend Melissa has 3 bulldogs, yes 3... Ellie May, Peggie, and Oscar. She occasionally sends me ridiculously cute pics from Maryland, where they (the bulldogs) live. These are no exception. Bullies are not built for snow, but they seem to doing alright. My guess is that they tucked back in to warm cozy beds by the fire after a few minutes of investigating the snowfields... it's an educated guess : )
A little bulldog love on Valentine's day.

EWG "shopper's guide to pesticides"

"As acknowledged by the U.S. and international government agencies, different pesticides have been linked with a variety of toxic effects, including:

  • Nervous system effects
  • Carcinogenic effects
  • Hormone system effects
  • Skin, eye and lung irritation

Pesticides are unique among the chemicals we release into the environment; they have inherent toxicity because they are designed to kill living organisms, i.e.“ insects, plants, and fungi that are considered "pests." Because they are toxic by design, many pesticides pose health risks to people, risks that have been acknowledged by independent research scientists and physicians across the world."

This is an excerpt on pesticides from the Environmental Working Group's site. They also have a handy app you can download to your iphone here.

Last week at city market in Burlington, the organic grape tomatoes where TWICE as expensive as the "conventional" ones. I was tempted to get the cheaper ones; I am on a major budget... but my conscious got the best of me - and I caved for the organic version (which are super tasty)! But sometimes (usually at checkout) I think, 'am I sucker for buying this organic produce - I mean does it REALLY matter'? Well, the answer is a resounding YES!
